FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the benefits of Airstar Lighting balloons?
The powerful illumination provided by Airstar Lighting balloons is comparable to daylight and can cover surface areas up to 440,000 sq. ft. Airstar balloon envelopes deliver higher quality of useful light, with unmatched safety and efficiency.
Airstar lighting balloons also cover 360° with uniform, glare-free illumination - an advantage over traditional lights that have narrower lighting angles.
What do you mean by lighted area?
The standard in the industry for surface lighting is 10 lux or 0.9 foot candles.
Illuminance Foot Candles Example
3 lux 0.28 fc Full moon under a clear sky
10 lux Sufficient light to read a newspaper
50 lux 4.645 fc Family living room
What is a foot candle?
The intensity of light falling on a surface area, equal to one lumen per square foot. A foot candle was originally defined with reference to a standardized candle burning at one foot from a given surface.
What is the Color Rendering Index?
The Color Rendering Index (CRI), expressed as a percentage, describes how a light source makes the color of an object appear to human eyes and how well subtle variations in color shades are revealed. The higher the CRI rating is, the better its color rendering ability.
Tungsten Halogen and HMI reflect 100% of the true colors of an object. Metal Halide only reproduces 90% of the true colors of an object, which means that the colors on the object appear differently.
Light Source Color Temperature CRI
Tungsten Halogen 3,200K 100%
Metal Halide 4,000K 90%
HMI 6,000K 100%
Are the balloons dangerous? Does helium explode?
Airstar Lighting balloons are completely safe...
  • The envelopes are made of complex, rip stop and non-flammable textures.
  • The electrical system: a safety system allows the balloon to switch off in case of depressurization.
  • The cables are adapted in this way guarantying the strength and reliability of the system.
  • The rigging: 50 lbs. sandbags and/or safety straps secured by long spikes are tethered to the legs of the lighting balloon stands to ensure the stability of the light.
  • We provide one or several technicians to set up the balloon and facilitate the maintenance and safety during your event.
  • Helium is a non-flammable gas. So there is no danger and no risk of explosion.
Are the balloons stable in adverse weather?
Yes...
  • The envelopes of the balloon are made of complex textures to give the balloon a long lifetime. These textures are rip stop, airtight and resistant to weather conditions (rain or snow).
  • Resistance to the wind: Airstar balloons have a resistance to the wind in proportion with their size and their lift (for more details you can go and see the detailed product pages of each product). In the case of helium balloons, wind speed will determine how high the balloon can float. The self-inflating balloons are fixed on stands that give them more resistance.
  • Resistance to temperature: the variations of temperature only have an effect on helium balloons. A difference in temperature can make the helium volume vary.
Can you use the balloons continually?
All our lighting balloons were designed for temporary illumination.
